Federal Shadow Minister for the Climate Change, Environment and Water, the Hon Greg Hunt, will travel to Cavendish on Sunday 28th June to discuss climate, environment and water issues currently facing the region.

Mr Hunt will address the Liberal Party's Wannon Area Conference at the Soldiers Memorial Hall in Cavendish on Sunday along with a panel of local politicians including Federal Member for Wannon, the Hon David Hawker, State Member for Western Region, John Vogels, Senator Judith Troeth, Senator Scott Ryan, State Member for Western Region David Koch and State Member for South West Coast Denis Napthine.

Participants will discuss motions on local issues including youth allowance, broadband, railway upgrades, recycling incentives, land tax and fox bounties among others.

Participants will also have a chance to direct questions to Mr Hunt and the panel of local politicians.

Federal Member for Wannon, David Hawker, said the conference aims to facilitate awareness of local issues at the State and National level and anyone with an interest in the region or a specific issue is encouraged to come and have their say.

"Past conferences have brought about significant outcomes for the region. For example, in 2005 a motion to support Deakin University Warrnambool's bid for a rural medical school paid dividends when former Prime Minister John Howard announced Deakin as the successful bidder," Mr Hawker said.

"The conference is a great forum for local branch members to raise issues that are important to their families and their communities, and it is expected that delegates will come from right across Western Victoria."

With nominations for preselection for the Wannon Liberal candidate closing two days later on Tuesday, there will be added interest at the forum.

Registration for the conference will start at 9.30am.
For further information contact David Hawker's electorate office on 1300 131 692.
